A cafe at Fox Point in Providence is closing after 13 years.
Malachi’s Cafe, located on Ives Street, is closing – but will be open this week to sell the remaining merchandise.
Known for their art, premium coffee and fancy drinks – pictured, “Monkey’s Banana Frappe”, Malachi’s had a strong local audience.

âOne of the best cafes of all time in Providence,â wrote Jim Nellis, founder of RI Food Fights, who left in a five-star review.
And for the owner, the end of this chapter could be the start of a new one.
New starts – and old family ties
âI’ve had a few surgeries this year – I’m not a spring chicken anymore,â owner Joe Sousa told GoLocal in an interview Wednesday.
âSomeone approached me out of the blue, someone I didn’t think would be interested in the building,â Sousa said of the building’s sale being finalized. “We negotiated a bit and both parties were happy.”
As for Sousa and his wife, they hope to find their roots.
âMy wife and I are originally from the Azores and have been planning to return there for some time,â Sousa said.
