July 31—A new downtown cafe has seen success in its first month of business.
Reverie Coffee, 114 S. Eighth St., opened to the public on July 9. Co-owners, Sadie Willis and Evan Cruz, found themselves enjoying great coffees wherever they were, and they wanted to bring a similar vibe. at Saint Joseph.
“We always knew it was what we wanted to do if we ever got the chance, we had no idea it would happen so soon. We just knew the previous owner and it just happened to us, honestly And then we’re like, well, if we’re going to do this, this is the best opportunity we’ll ever have,” Willis said.
Willis and Cruz agreed that their passion for trying small coffees when traveling played a huge part in inspiring what they have available in the shop. All the syrups and foods in the shop are homemade.
“I think we take inspiration from a lot of stores that we’ve been to before. Like what I look at when we go to visit a different city, I always look at their Instagram or their Google listing and I look at pictures and stuff like that that catch my eye when it comes to specialty drinks that I see,” Willis said.
Cruz said his favorite part of the shop open so far is the number of customers they have and the fact that they are already seeing regulars.
“I love seeing people’s faces when they taste my coffee and say, ‘This is really good.’ It’s a good feeling to see someone smile and have a drink and enjoy it,” Cruz said.
The couple, who have been together for seven years, say they have enjoyed meeting people so far and look forward to continuing to serve the St. Joseph community.
“We’re local to St. Joe and would love to meet you and hang out. And we’re always going to have new seasonal items coming out. We sort of have our seasonal summer menu right now, but we “I’m constantly going to change that and come up with fun new ideas. So be on the lookout,” Willis said.
The cafe’s opening hours can be found on their Facebook page.
